Dion’s Team to Establish New Concept

“Providing the opportunity to connect in a relaxed environment with good quality food is at the core of who we are,” explained Jon Patten, co-founder of Dion’s, “Having another restaurant concept allows us to expand this offering to our community.”
The simple menu at Tula’s will feature craveable classics including baked and crispy chicken, grilled sandwiches, and fresh salads along with signature cocktails, local beer, and wine. Menu items are familiar and are favorites among kids, but have been elevated for grownups and modern diners. For example, the grilled cheeses are made using artisan cheeses and are put on tasty sourdough and rye. There is also a creamy green chile mac n’ cheese on the menu and the crispy chicken strips are served with house made sauces. Dion’s will provide the condiments they are known for, including Ranch and Green Chile Ranch, though the brand has developed a new line of sauces and dressings for Tula’s.
The restaurant will feature a comfortable, modern aesthetic and will have an outside fire pit for friends and family who want to casually gather over a good meal and drinks. “While many restaurant concepts have moved to more of a takeout model, especially in light of COVID, we are taking a different approach,” said Patten. “We believe the desire to connect with one another over the dinner table is as strong as it has ever been. Individuals simply want to take a break from their homes and offices.”
“We’re excited to take what we’ve learned through Dion’s over the last 43 years and use it to add a complementary concept to the family,” said Dion’s CEO, Mark Herman. “Albuquerque is ripe for a restaurant with a simple, delicious menu that uses high-end fresh ingredients served in a modern atmosphere. Combined with the first-rate execution and service we’re known for, we are confident Tula’s will become a community favorite.”
Tula’s is named after Jon Patten’s late aunt, who was known for her flavorful cooking. It is short for Athenaoula, a Greek name, which is a variation of Athena.
The first location will be at La Cueva Town Center at Wyoming Blvd and Paseo del Norte. It is projected to open in the summer of 2022.
